I grew up in the mountains of West Virginia surrounded by a community and family that emphasized ties between generations. My grandparents and their friends were as active and important a part of my life as my parents and peers. As my grandparents aged and were struck by dementias I supported the caregivers both directly and indirectly. This has led to a passion about the wellbeing of older adults and the caregivers of disabled loved ones. I have dealt with issues around caregiving, loss process, and death within the home itself, and remotely.
I am a graduate of the Leadership Institute of Seattle Graduate College of Saybrook University. The program emphasizes a whole person and family approach to helping that often focuses on working with where the current struggles and challenges are. I am currently attending the UW Geriatric Mental Health Certificate program which works to provide a broad base to support working in the many systems that confront older adults and caregivers.
I love working with older adults and their families. I am aware that as people age the challenges and changes can be numerous. I look forward to hearing your unique stories and challenges and finding ways to use them to learn, grow, and heal.
I have my LMHCA and am working on my GMHC
